Student poll on Hashemi
The results are in from Yale Herald's student opinion poll on whether Hashemi should be admitted to Yale in various programs. 1900 students took the poll. President Levin denies John Fund's claim that he will determine Hashemi's admission status. All this confirms the desire of Fund and others to turn this debate into a political firestorm - when some of the questions they want all of us at Yale to answer are questions for another authority.

Della, could you clarify what you mean in that sentence? Thanks.
Della and Sabrina, I'd love to hear your opinion on the poll results.
"when some of the questions [Fund and others] want all of us at Yale to answer are questions for another authority."
I couldn't have agreed more.
I don't claim to know what Della means by that, but I personally believe that authority is the U.S. government.
I actually wrote that sentence. Yale '06 is right; I think the question of whether Hashemi poses a security threat is relevant and a matter for the US government to decide. Other questions, it seems to me, deal with Hashemi's personal views (which are surely addressed in his application materials) and what kind of community Yale seeks to create. This has been discussed in many other places (see recent YDN editorials, for example). This is a matter for the admissions committe to decide - and they have clearly made a choice and will soon make another choice.
Thanks for the clarificaton, Sabrina.
